WHIRL - Part 7 (Erin)
INT. CAR Echo and Gustav sit in the rain in Gustav’s avocado green 1974 Volvo 240 Series. We hear the rain and the sound of the windshield wipers. One wiper blade is loose and drags across the window.  Gustav is wearing a Christmas turtleneck sweater and is drinking a Sonic Banana Creme Pie Shake, ironically. Echo is in an orange pea coat with a “Just say “No” to the Dolls...

WHIRL - Part 6 (Mel Cowan)
EXT. ROOF - NIGHT Echo sits on the roof of the co-op, listening to Mississippi John Hurt through gigantic headphones, which are attached to a hand-cranked gramophone record player. Gustav has a tiny piece of paper on which is written, “The devil you know.” in calligraphy. He ties it to the leg of a pigeon that he has in his jacket pocket and sets it free. It flies away across the...

From the bathroom...

He sits and watches her for a moment. GUSTAV: Why? ECHO: I just wanted to make sense of something. Where’s your tomahawk? GUSTAV: I gave it to a kid outside. ECHO: Do you ever wonder what sound a quasar makes?...

WHIRL - Part 1
I am writing the worst indie movie while I am staying with my father-in-law in the hospital. This will be out of order. You can decide if this is on purpose or not. It is based on the idea that I slept in a bed designed for a four year old last night. Echo and Gustav are lying side by side in a twin bed. A green mosquito net envelops the bed. The net is covered with butterflies and sunshine. The...

It got worse then better.
When I found out there were no more flights out of LA to Detroit, I left the airport. I got on a shuttle to the lot I parked in only to discover that I lost my iPhone. I was on the shuttle with a woman amazed at how warm it is in LA and dying to talk about it. Meanwhile, I am crying from the stress and the mounting dread of loosing something I am painfully addicted to. I get in my car and retrace...
